The story of DUNGEON OF THE ENDLESS is simple: An escape pod crashes on a hostile planet, leaving a small selection of heroes to protect a power crystal and survive while working through endless attacks by the hostile denizens of the world. This a rogue-like game, incorporating elements of strategy, tower defense with randomly generated levels, and permanent death for heroes, wrapped up in a retro-style, pixelated, top-down gaming world. Players put together a team of four heroes from a cast of 12 to combat the onslaught of monsters. There's also a multiplayer mode for users to team together and fight through the dungeon.
Bones files in eligible special levels, such as Minetown, may be loaded as bones at a different level than they were saved at, sometimes breaking other ad-hoc rules like 'no polymorph traps above dungeon level 8'.
When entering a Trial in Ganon's Tower, the game is supposed to write your current inventory somewhere in the ram to save it, and give you back the inventory you had when you first fought the boss in its dungeon. When you then end the battle, the game uses the ramvalues and copies the saved inventory into your normal inventory, giving you back your items. That is a Normal Trial.
Many events in the game force an autosave without prompting a player for key input. Most notably, when you are receiving quest rewards, receiving materials from any source (including the random event), entering a town, dungeon, or other non-wilderness location, or opening a container or buried treasure.
